Description:

A survey course of the major perspectives, theories and fields of Psychology with an emphasis on application to real life of students.

Objective

Cover the major areas of Psychology

To review the viewpoints and assumptions of the major perspectives of psychology

To investigate how the nervous system, endocrine system, evolution, and heredity affect behavior

To review human development, emotion, motivation and memory and how they influence behavior

To investigate the various types of abnormal behavior and their treatment modalities.

Requirements:

Answers to questions for chapters

Daily active participation in classroom discussion for 7 chapters

10 Page research paper

 

Evaluation:

1000 Points- answers to chapter questions plus active participation  in classroom discussion: 100 point for each answer to chapter essay questions and classroom participation for a total 0f 700 points.   STUDENTS WILL LOSE SIGNIFICANT POINTS FOR LACK OF PARTICIPATION IN CLASSROOM DISCUSSION. 300 Points for the 10 page research paper(See requirements below). ANSWERS TO CHAPTER QUESTIONS MUST BE BETWEEN 400 AND 600 WORDS IN LENGTH. STUDENTS WILL LOSE SIGNIFICANT POINTS FOR ANSWERS THAT ARE LESS THAN 600 WORDS. Studens will also lose significant points for not meeting the required number of classroom discussion posts per week ( 8 POSTS PER WEEK).

Length- No less than 10 pages

Topic-any subject that can be found in the text

Style- APA

number of citations- no less than 5

Due date- June 21 at 11PM

 

Attendance Policy:

Students must sign on and participate at least 8 times per week. Students who do not participate regularly will be dropped from the class.

 

 

 

 

Withdrawal Policy:

A student has the privilege of withdrawing from any courses or from the College itself without academic penalty up to and including the final date for withdrawal indicated on the College calendar.

 

To withdraw officially from a course or from the College, a student must obtain the proper withdrawal form from the Student Affairs Office or from your Center Director, complete this form and submit it to the Registrar's Office before the final day for withdrawal without academic penalty as indicated on the College calendar. If a student should stop attending or never attend an enrolled class or classes without officially withdrawing prior to the last day to withdraw without academic penalty, the student will receive a grade of F* (Failure) in these courses. No exceptions will be made.

 

Students who violate the College's Academic Integrity Policy and fail a course in consequence may not exercise the withdrawal privilege in that particular course.

 

Financial obligations to the College will be determined according to the Refund Policy.

3 )ANSWERS TO CHAPTER QUESTIONS MUST BE POSTED ON THE APPROPRIATE FORUM BY THE DUE DATES LISTED UNDER COURSE WORK. ANSWERS TO CHAPTER QUESTIONS PLUS DAILY CLASSROOM PARTICIPATION ARE WORTH BETWEEEN  100  POINTS PER CHAPTER ASSIGNMENT(SEE ASSIGNMENTS SECTION).

5) BE SURE TO READ THE ONLINE STUDENT MANUAL 

6 ) LOG ON TO YOUR COURSE DAILY. YOU ARE REQUIRED TO LOG QN AND PARTICIPATE IN CLASSROOM DISCUSSION AT LEAST FOUR(3) TIMES PER DAY. STUDENTS WILL LOSE 20 POINTS FROM THEIR ANSWERS TO CHAPTER QUESTIONS GRADE FOR EACH TIME THEY FAIL TO MEET THIS REQUIREMENT.

Other rules:   

Here are some Etiquette Rules for this online course that everyone needs to read and abide by:

 

1.                   Golden Rule:  Treat others as you would like to be treated (this applies to online conversations).

2.                   No “Flaming”:  Flaming is a form of verbal abuse when you intentionally attack or disrespect somebody for whatever reason.  Maybe you didn’t agree with something they said, but there’s a nice way to share a different point of view without name calling or attacking someone.

3.                   Respect Others’ Copyrights:  These things have copyrights and licenses.  Copying the works of someone else without permission or saying it is your own will not only ruin your online reputation, but could cost you a lawsuit.

4.                   DON’T TYPE IN ALL CAPS:  It makes someone think that you are shouting at them.

5.                   Don’t Spam:   This is an on-line course so let’s keep it educational.

6.                   Be Honest:   Faking website statistics, pretending to be someone else, or trying to cheat people online will not only hurt your reputation, but will cause you a lot of trouble.

7.                   Use Proper Grammar and Spelling:  Spelling isn’t always easy and typos and basic spelling mistakes will occur, but it can be distracting from your work and can be annoying.

8.                   Keep it PG-13:  It can come back to haunt you if you write something that is not appropriate and you can be penalized for swearing.

9.                   Research Your Facts and Cite Sources:   Before posting something, forwarding e-mails, make sure it is factual and cite sources where needed.

10.               Remember Your Place:   A web-based classroom is still a classroom, and comments that would be inappropriate in a classroom are likely to be inappropriate in a web-

Due Dates and Late Penalties:

o     The grace period for late assignments is as follows:

§   1 day late-10% deduction off of the assignment grade

§   2 days late-20% off of the assignment grade

§   3 days late-the assignment will receive a grade of 0%

o     There will be no “extra credit.”

 

Academic Integrity

 Academic dishonesty in any form, such as plagiarism and cheating, will not be tolerated. Sanctions will include an automatic F for plagiarism, but the severity or frequency of the violation may result in dismissal from the College as well. Please see the Student Handbook for a complete explanation.

 

The following are among the forms of dishonesty for which sanctions may be applied:

·          Using books, notes or other materials during an examination, unless expressly permitted;

·          Using purchased essays, term papers or preparatory research for such papers;

·          Copying others' work or engaging in unauthorized cooperation during an assignment or examination;

·          Allowing another student to copy from an examination or other assignment intended to be performed independently;

·          Borrowing from published works, whether material is taken verbatim or with minor alterations, without proper and/or sufficient acknowledgment;

·          Submitting as one’s own work originally done by someone else;

·          Submitting the same written report in more than one course without prior approval from the instructor(s) involved;

·          Stealing examinations or assignments;

·          Supplying or selling examinations or assignments;

·          Misrepresenting statements concerning work submitted;

·          Falsifying or fabricating experimental data or results;

·          Falsifying or fabricating the need for extensions on papers or make-up examinations.
